About the clinic

Helping families feed their babies since 2015

We opened our doors in February 2015. Since then we've sat with hundreds of families through the hardest early weeks โ€” and we're still here.

Who we are

The Brantford Breastfeeding Clinic is a place to come when feeding isn't going the way you hoped. Most families find us in the first days or weeks after leaving the hospital.

In Brantford the clinic is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 am to 2 pm. In Hamilton it's open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 3 pm.

We're staffed by board-certified lactation consultants working alongside a pediatrician, so your baby is assessed and your feeding is supported in the same visit.

You don't have to wait until there's a problem. If you're still pregnant and want to talk through infant feeding before your baby arrives, you're welcome to book a prenatal visit.

You know your baby better than anyone. Our job is to give you the information and the hands-on help to act on what you already sense.

What we believe

Breastfeeding is natural โ€” but natural doesn't mean easy, and it doesn't come automatically to everyone. Most parents plan to breastfeed. Many hit a wall. That is not a personal failure, and it is very rarely something you caused.

We won't lecture you and we won't push you. If breastfeeding turns out not to be right for your family, we'll help you feed your baby safely and confidently another way. A fed baby and a well parent are the goal.

The evidence

Why we put this much into feeding support

Not to pressure you โ€” just so you know what the research shows, in plain language.

For you

  • Helps the uterus recover after birth
  • Burns over 500 extra calories a day
  • Lower rates of breast, ovarian and uterine cancer
  • Lower rates of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and osteoporosis
  • A release of oxytocin, which helps you feel calm and connected

For your baby

  • Breastmilk changes as your baby grows to match their needs
  • Fewer ear infections, colds and stomach bugs
  • Lower rates of allergies and diabetes
  • Easy to digest, so often less colic and fewer tummy troubles
  • Contains what's needed for brain development

A note on all of this: these are population-level findings, not a scorecard for your family. Plenty of thriving, healthy, deeply loved children were fed formula. Use this information to make your own decision โ€” and know that whichever way you go, we'll support it.
