If you need help right now and the clinic is closed: call Health811 at 811 for free nurse advice, 24 hours a day. Go to your nearest emergency department if your baby is very sleepy and hard to wake, refusing to feed, has far fewer wet diapers than usual, is breathing quickly, or has a fever.

Questions people ask us
Do I need a referral?
No. Parents can contact us directly — just call or text the clinic. Care providers who'd like to refer a family to the Hamilton clinic can use the referral form.
How much does it cost?
There's no fee to see the lactation consultant. Bring your health card and your baby's health card if you have it.
How soon after birth can I come?
As soon as you'd like. Most families come in the first days or weeks after leaving the hospital — that's exactly when we're most useful. You're also welcome before your baby is born, to talk through feeding ahead of time.
How long will the appointment take?
Plan for about an hour. We watch a full feed, so we work at your baby's pace rather than the clock's.
Can I bring my partner or other children?
Yes, please do. Bring whoever supports you at home — the more of you who hear the plan, the easier it is to follow.
What if I've already started formula?
You're still very welcome. Combination feeding, exclusive pumping, formula feeding — we'll help you with whatever you're doing and whatever you'd like to do next. There's no judgement here.
Can I email you a question?
You can, and we'll reply as soon as we can. Please keep personal health details out of email and text — for anything detailed or urgent, call the clinic instead.
